World Meteorological Day Marked: Minju Joson
Pyongyang, March 23 (KCNA) -- Minju Joson Saturday dedicates a bylined article to World Meteorological Day.

It is a very urgent issue to put weather forecast and monitoring on a new scientific basis under the condition in which abnormal weather often affects the entire earth, the article says, and goes on:

Diverse events are taking place in the DPRK on World Meteorological Day.

The DPRK is conducting active information campaign and, at the same time, imparting with speed to people information needed for their work and life, mainly the trend of the recent climate change and features of climate change in the country.

In line with correct policies of the Workers' Party of Korea and the DPRK government, the hydro-meteorological field of the DPRK is working hard to put weather forecast on a scientific basis and modernize equipment so as to protect the life and property of the people from natural disasters.

In this course many achievements have been made in the work to put on a higher stage hydro-meteorological activities including researches into meteorology and the introduction of modern observation means into weather forecast.

Particularly, the radar system for observing clouds has been established to lay a scientific foundation for timely forecasting unexpected weather.

The DPRK will continue to work hard to make greater progress in hydro-meteorological work to help economic construction and improvement of people's living standard, and further strengthen cooperation with relevant international bodies including the World Meteorological Organization.
