The 20-volume encyclopedia covers all spheres of social life, including history, politics, economy, culture, geography and sciences.

With more than 58,000 entries, the 16,000-odd page book breaks into 97 parts, 586 chapters and over 2,400 sections. Contained in it are more than 9,000 photos, pictures and maps to illustrate entries.

Every volume carries pictures of President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il and deals with the undying exploits of the Workers' Party of Korea.

The encyclopedia was awarded the title of Kim Jong Il Prize on the occasion of the Day of the Shining Star (Feb. 16).
