KCNA Commentary Blasts Story of "Drug Trafficking" by DPRK
|

Pyongyang, March 26 (KCNA) -- The American paper The Washington Post is misleading the public opinion by releasing the fictitious story of "drug trafficking" by the DPRK, pursuant to the government authorities' hostile policy toward it. The newspaper on March 23 carried a false report that north Korea ordered its diplomats to become drug traffickers. This is a groundless and absurd smear campaign against the DPRK. This can never be overlooked as the U.S. and other hostile forces are now stoking hostility toward the DPRK as never before. The U.S. is taken aback by the strong spirit of the DPRK countering the "resolution on sanctions", Foal Eagle nuclear war rehearsal and other moves for the implementation of the hostile policy with the toughest actions. Under such situation, the U.S. is openly building up the international atmosphere for pressure, labeling the DPRK as a "criminal state" and "a rogue state" by employing every possible means and method. It justified the UN Security Council's adoption of "resolution on sanctions" which calls for tightening monitoring of the DPRK diplomats and instigated it to put it into practice. The circumstances of the news story makes one easily assume the sordid nature of the hostile forces. Die-hard conservative hack paper Chosun Ilbo of south Korea spread the false information, describing it as "statements" made by "defectors from the north". Those defectors deserted their parents, brothers and sisters, to say nothing of the homeland, for their own luxury. Can they possibly make proper statements? As for Chosun Ilbo, it has been engrossed in making all sorts of vituperations against the DPRK, turning white to black, pursuant to the puppet group's moves for confrontation with fellow countrymen in the north. The "defectors from the north" and Chosun Ilbo have been accustomed to making false reports about the DPRK. The gravity of the situation lies in that the Washington Post professing a famous newspaper echoed the false story. Lurking behind this is a politically calculated aim. The newspaper seeks to work as a shock brigade in executing the U.S. administration's hostile policy toward the DPRK and thus tarnish the international image of the DPRK and justify the U.S. anti-DPRK policy that arouses international criticism. It is essential for media claiming accuracy, impartiality and objectivity to see through the essence of issues. The illegal use, trafficking and production of drugs which reduce human being into mental cripples do not exist in the DPRK. The country acceded to international conventions on drug control and has strictly controlled the entry of drugs from outside under international and domestic laws. It is none other than the U.S. which should be called to task before any others when dealing with the drug-related crimes. Earlier this year, the plan to smuggle huge amount of drugs enough for administering 2,000 U.S. soldiers present in south Korea at a time was disclosed, sparking off a public furor. It is illogical for the U.S., a country plagued with serious social problems like drug misuses, smuggling and illegal production, to talk about the non-existent "drug trafficking" in the DPRK. The U.S. acts of stepping up confrontation with the DPRK while raising trifling matters will force the latter to increase the level of its stand-off with the U.S. The situation in which the U.S. hostile policy toward the DPRK has become all the more pronounced proves once again that the only option for the DPRK to defend itself is to bolster the nuclear deterrence, a treasured sword of Songun. |
