Sports Tournament under Way in Pyongyang

| Pyongyang, March 27 (KCNA) -- With sports enthusiasm mounting in across the country, a tournament of officials of city-level institutions is going on here as part of the 16th Mangyongdae Prize Sports Contest held annually on the occasion of the Day of the Sun (April 15), the birthday of President Kim Il Sung. Taking part in the tournament, launched on March 20, are more than 3,000 men and women. With 10 events, including football, basketball, volleyball and defence sports, it is held on a knockout basis, divided into three groups. What drew attention of spectators in the tournament is the Taekwon-Do event, in which the Central Information and Communications Centre, Pyongyang Secondary School No. 1 and the Pyongyang Automation Instrument Factory have proved successful in team and individual patterns. Table-tennis competitions, too, catch eyes of spectators. The tournament will run until April 13. |
