Action for Peace Called for in S. Korea

Pyongyang, April 3 (KCNA) -- People belonging to civic and public organizations of south Korea, including the Solidarity for Progress, Confederation of Trade Unions, Federation of Peasants Associations and Society of April Revolution, and elders of the reunification movement held an urgent meeting at which they called for ensuring peace on the Korean Peninsula.

At the meeting speakers said that there is no legal and institutional mechanism to deter a war on the peninsula. Nevertheless, the "government" and the ruling party are not making substantial efforts to settle the issue, they charged.

In order to tide over the present serious crisis, it is necessary for people from different social standings to launch a dynamic action for peace, they held.

They called for forming "people's action for putting an end to war and realizing peace" involving organizations of all social strata and conducting an action.
