Pyongyang, April 4 (KCNA) -- Good species of turf have begun to sprout in various parts of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. In this regard, KCNA met Kim Ryong Sok, a section chief of the Turf Institute under the State Academy of Sciences. The chief said: Public attention for lawn is nowadays running higher in the country. The species of golden turf indigenous to our country is highly resistant to drought, not affected by acid soil. The turf is appropriate to parks, pleasure grounds, stadiums and golf courses. The institute is now focusing efforts on the improvement of this species. Among other species to be applied in the country are Poa pratensis native to Eurasia, known to be of high spreading ability, and Festuca ovina highly resistant to coldness and severe heat. Greenery of Festuca ovina lasts for some 260 days under the country's weather. Such turf species as penn A-1, penn A-4 and Marina are also introduced in the country. |
