The championships, which have been under way in Tashkent since April 8 and will last till April 13, brought together more than 440 players from at least 50 countries and regions of the world

At the first-day match DPRK players bagged 4 gold medals and one silver medal.

Ri Su Yon came first and won three gold medals by lifting a total of 153kg -- 67kg in snatch and 86kg in jerk in the women's 44kg category event.

Pak Jong Ju placed second in total points and bagged one gold medal and silver medal by coming first in jerk in the men's 50kg category event.
