U.S. Had Better Fulfill Its Commitments: Rodong Sinmun

Pyongyang, April 17 (KCNA) -- The U.S. and its followers are talking such rubbish as "violation of international obligation" and "provocative steps" over the measures taken by the DPRK to develop nuclear power industry and bolster nuclear deterrence. Rodong Sinmun Wednesday observes in a bylined commentary in this regard: This indicates they are working hard to incriminate again the DPRK's activities to implement its new line of simultaneously pushing forward the economic construction and the building of nuclear force. The "violation of international obligation" means that the DPRK's step is a breach of the September 19 joint statement adopted at the six-party talks, the commentary notes, urging the U.S. to properly fulfill its commitments. The joint statement was adopted by the countries which were allegedly interested in the issue of the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula in 2005, the principle of which is "word for word" and "action for action." However, the U.S. did nothing to implement the joint statement but was keen on acts quite contrary to it, the commentary says, and goes on: The U.S. took the lead in wantonly violating the sovereignty of the DPRK, much less abiding by the purpose and principles of the UN Charter. While keeping no promise, the U.S. termed the DPRK's satellite liftoff a "long-range missile launch" and staged DPRK-targeted large-scale joint nuclear military exercises every year. Now it has the effrontery to accuse the DPRK of violating an international obligation and derailing the six-party talks. The U.S. has adopted various important documents with the DPRK in the past but none of them has been implemented. The latter suffered losses amounting to astronomical figures. The steps taken by the DPRK recently represented a just option based on the conclusion that there is no need to argue pro and con with the U.S. any longer and it is necessary to protect the sovereignty of the country and build an economic power by its own efforts. The U.S. had better remain true to its international commitments before anyone else, bearing in mind that its reckless behavior in the relations with other countries in violation of international obligation would bring it more serious setbacks. |
