President Kim Il Sung clarified the line on simultaneously developing the economy and defence upbuilding for the first time in history at the Fifth Plenary Meeting of the Fourth Central Committee of the WPK in Juche 51 (1962).

For a long period of leading the revolution leader Kim Jong Il thoroughly implemented the line, leading the fierce nuclear showdown with the U.S. to victory after victory through his Songun politics.

The new strategic line of the WPK means continuation of the line on simultaneously developing the economy and defence upbuilding and its development onto a new higher stage and a strategic line on bolstering capability for self-defence with nuclear force as a mainstay.

The U.S. imperialist aggressors are the principal enemy of the DPRK in the struggle for implementing the previous line and in the on-going all-out offensive for successfully putting into practice the recent strategic line. Its targets remain unchanged.

Peace, prosperity and people's happy life are guaranteed by the powerful nuclear force.

It is necessary to bolster capability for self-defence with nuclear force as a mainstay. Herein lies the basic characteristics of a new line of the WPK. Its line of simultaneously pushing forward economic construction and building of nuclear force is a strategic line for building a thriving nation as it makes it possible to bolster the country's defence capability in every way by developing the nuclear force, a legacy left by Kim Jong Il, and at the same time channel greater efforts into economic construction to enable the people to fully enjoy luxury and glory under socialism.-0-

Steadfast is the faith of the army and people of the DPRK to perform heroic feats in an all-out action with the U.S. and in building a thriving nation through bold offensive, all-people do-or-die battle, taking hold on the new line.
