The day called the Day of the Sun marked the beginning of the Korean history.

On this traditional holiday, floral baskets and bouquets are laid before the statues of Generalissimos Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il standing in the heart of Pyongyang and tribute is paid to them at the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun where they lie in state. The April Spring Friendship Art Festival is held in Pyongyang on this significant day.

Performances are given at the art festival by foreign artistes who come to Korea, the land of morning calm.

Kimilsungia festival and shows take place in different parts of the DPRK on the April spring holiday.

The IAAF-Mangyongdae Prize Marathon is held with splendor to significantly celebrate the Day of the Sun.

An endless stream of foreign delegations, workers, soldiers, students and Pyongyangites visit Mangyongdae to express profound reverence for Kim Il Sung.

This year, too, splendid celebrations are taking place in Pyongyang to mark his 101st birth anniversary.
