The uprising was an anti-U.S., anti-fascist mass resistance of youth, students and other people for an independent and democratic new politics, new life and national reunification. It proved the truth that any fascist regime dependent on pro-American flunkeyism is bound to fall into a ditch of history.

Traitor Syngman Rhee of south Korea faked up the March 15, 1960, "presidential" election returns in a bid to stay in power any longer.

Enraged at the fabrication, students and other residents in Masan rose up in an anti-Syngman Rhee action which rapidly developed into an uprising throughout south Korea.

On April 19, university students and other people of different social strata in Seoul attacked, destroyed and set fire to the buildings of the puppet government organs and the U.S. colonial ruling agencies.

The fierce uprising in most of cities and areas of south Korea, including Pusan, Inchon and Kwangju, stroke the U.S. imperialists and the traitorous clique with terror.

The U.S. imperialists and the puppet clique mobilized troops to crack down on the uprisers while employing tricks of conciliation and deception. However the traitor Syngman Rhee fascist dictatorship went to collapse at last.

Later, the gains made by the uprisers were spoiled by the U.S. and the pro-American conservatives.

Strengthening its system for domination over south Korea, the U.S. made the pro-American elements come to power in order to sow discord within the Korean nation.

It has also instigated the south Korean conservative authorities to stage large-scale anti-DPRK war drills, posing a serious threat to peace and security of the Korean Peninsula.

At present the tense situation between the north and the south of Korea has been escalated to the utmost due to the behaviors of the ultra-right conservatives of south Korea, who are laying hurdles in the way for improvement of the bilateral relations, pursuant to the U.S. policy of aggression on the DPRK.

The situation urges all the Koreans to smash the U.S. and the traitorous forces' moves by inheriting the spirit of the uprisers who heroically fought for independence, democracy and reunification of the country.

Only when the south Korean people wage a stubborn struggle in the April 19 spirit, is it possible to realize the nation's desire to live in a free and peaceful, reunified land.
