No War Drills But Peace Treaty: South Koreans
Pyongyang, April 21 (KCNA) -- The Media and Academic Headquarters of the South Side Committee for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration made public a joint statement on April 17 calling for a halt to the war drills and the settlement of the crisis on the Korean Peninsula through the conclusion of a peace treaty.

The statement referred to the fact that the situation on the Korean Peninsula is inching close to the brink of a war.

It accused the U.S. of having massively deployed strategic nuclear weapons in south Korea in wanton violation of the Armistice Agreement since the very day of its conclusion and staged war drills aimed at preemptive nuclear attack against the north.

Having designated the north as a target of its preemptive nuclear attack, the U.S. has escalated the danger of a war, the statement noted, and continued:

The outbreak of a nuclear war on the Korean Peninsula should not be allowed as it will cause the worst tragedy in history. To this end it is necessary to build a peace-keeping mechanism and root out the very source of war.

The U.S. and south Korean authorities should stop hostile remarks and war drills against the north and opt for concluding a peace treaty.
