Kim Il Sung, Genius in Military Affairs
Pyongyang, April 22 (KCNA) -- From his early days of revolutionary activities, President Kim Il Sung had paid priority to military affairs.

On the basis of unique line that Korea's liberation could be achieved only by force of arms, he organized the Korean People's Revolutionary Army (KPRA) and launched an anti-Japanese armed struggle to liberate the country.

After the country's liberation, he developed the KPRA into the Korean People's Army, a regular army. Under his guidance, the KPA in the Korean War (1950-1953) defeated the U.S. imperialists, who boasted of being the strongest in the world.

He set forth a self-defensive military line of making the entire army a cadre army, modernizing it, putting all the people under arms and turning the whole country into a fortress. He also advanced a unique line of simultaneously carrying on economic and defence buildup.

Thanks to his illustrious guidance to that effect, the KPA turned into a-match-for-a-hundred forces and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea rose to fame as a socialist power, independent in politics, self-supporting in the economy and self-reliant in defence.

In the early 1990s, Kim Il Sung handed over the KPA supreme commandership to general secretary Kim Jong Il, possessed of unparalleled qualification and virtue as befitting a brilliant commander, thus settling the issue of succession to the cause of army building.

Kim Jong Il's assumption of office as KPA supreme commander was what Kim Il Sung had thought of from long ago. It also represented the unanimous will and desire of the servicepersons and civilians.

By pursuing the Songun (military-first) politics, Kim Jong Il deterred anti-DPRK offensives launched by the U.S.-led imperialists, and creditably defended Korean-style socialism centered on popular masses.

The enduring feats the great Generalissimos Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il performed in army building are now being successfully carried forward by respected Marshal Kim Jong Un.
