It brought together more than 9,000 school youth and children selected from each province of the country. It will be held in Pyongyang, Phyongsong and Hamhung cities.

The contest was divided into groups of senior secondary and junior secondary and primary schools. The participants will compete in 40 odd events including defence sports, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, Taekwon-Do, marathon and wrestling.

An opening ceremony took place at the Taekwon-Do Hall Thursday.

At the end of the ceremony there was a Taekwon-Do demonstration performance of schoolchildren.
