Achievements Made in Developing Science and Technology for Film Industry
Pyongyang, May 18 (KCNA) -- The Research Institute of Cinema Science has promoted the development of the Juche-oriented science and technology for film industry.

General Secretary Kim Jong Il clearly indicated tasks and ways before the institute on May 17 and 18, Juche 62 (1973) and wisely led the work to put film production on a scientific and technological basis.

The institute has developed into the one with a competent research staff and modern equipment over the past four decades.

The researchers there succeeded in setting and coordinating hundreds of film technical indexes and measuring and analyzing methods including shooting conditions, recording level and standard norms of color and temperature.

They also manufactured varieties of shooting and lighting optical instruments according to seasons, time and change of colors and temperature and developed substance for makeup.

They, at the same time, manufactured a lot of projector reflex-mirrors, microphones, speakers and amplifiers for cinemas, theatres and cultural houses across the country.

They conducted a dynamic drive to introduce digitization of film production process in recent years, developing a retrieval system for sound effect data, system for remote control of sound mixing, stereo sound system, etc.

Digital image processing technology developed by the institute was introduced to the production of feature films "The Country I Saw" (Parts 2 and 3) and "Distress".

The institute completed the Korean-style system for stereo sound revival and technology for increasing the life of movies and developed an electronic projector convenient for use while cutting down electricity consumption.

It is now pushing forward the work to radically raise the level of technological representation of Korean films by developing technology for 3D film production and projecting as required by the world trend of film technology.
