Pyongyang, May 21 (KCNA) -- Military hooligans turned Kwangju of south Korea into a "bathtub of blood" in May, 33 years ago. This was an extreme fascist action which quenched the people's desire for democracy by the most atrocious and brutal method. Rodong Sinmun Tuesday says this in a bylined article. It goes on: After holding the real power of the south Korean puppet military through the "army purge coup" on December 12, 1979, the military gangsters hatched plots to seize power. Finally in May the next year they openly moved to hold control of the regime. Under the situation where the struggle for democracy against fascism rapidly mounted among the broad range of people, the "yusin" remnants carried out bloody coup to revive the "yusin system" and intensify the military fascist rule. They were on the verge of collapse in the face of the worsened contradiction and conflict among the inside rulers. The military hooligans made no scruple of committing indiscriminate massacre against the Kwangju people who offered resistance. It was none other than the U.S. which manipulated the south Korean troops from the backstage to mercilessly quell the south Koreans' desire for democracy. Even today the people's desire for democracy and human rights are being mercilessly violated in south Korea. History and the situation refresh a bitter lesson that the democratic development of society and human rights can never be guaranteed as long as the U.S. colonial system to dominate south Korea goes on and the traitorous ruling forces who quench the desire and demand of the people as the stooge of foreign forces are allowed to take power. |
