DPRK's Young Pianist Proves Successful in Int'l Juvenile Piano Concours
Pyongyang, May 21 (KCNA) -- DPRK's 12 year-old student Yu Pyol Mi took the second place at the first Astana International Juvenile Piano Concours held in Astana, Kazakhstan between May 10 and 16.

The concours was aimed to find out music prodigies in the world and boost the international exchange of piano art. It was divided into three groups according to the ages 7 to 18.

In each group participants had to pass preliminaries to be qualified and compete in the first and second phases.

30 participants were qualified for concours out of 140 juvenile pianists from various countries including the DPRK, Russia, China, Australia and the U.S. who played in preliminaries.

Each of the 30 pianists played a solo at the first phase and piano concerto together with the Astana National Symphony Orchestra at the second phase.

Yu was qualified at the preliminaries for her remarkable talent and piano rendition. Belonging to Group B (aged 11 to 14) she successfully played foreign music at the first phase.

Though she had no experience of playing a concerto with a symphony orchestra, she perfectly represented it at the second phase, winning admiration of even musicians.

She was awarded a diploma of the second place at a closing ceremony held on May 16.
