Russian Figure Supports DPRK's Countermeasures

Pyongyang, May 23 (KCNA) -- Khuzakov, envoy in charge of international relations of the Liberal Democratic Party Group of the State Duma of Russia, on May 17 blasted the U.S. hostile acts against the DPRK and supported the Korean people's just cause. A touch-and-go situation is now prevailing on the Korean Peninsula, he said, and went on: The U.S. prodded the UN Security Council into faking up a "resolution on sanctions" against the DPRK over its satellite launch last December. In reaction to this, the DPRK conducted its 3rd underground nuclear test to protect its sovereignty and dignity. Upset by this, the U.S. again prodded the UNSC into adopting a harsher "sanctions resolution." Timed to coincide with this, it staged large-scale joint military drills in south Korea with huge forces involved. In view of this grave situation, the DPRK declared the Armistice Agreement null and void and took a series of toughest retaliatory measures warning the U.S. of strikes at all military targets in its mainland, Hawaii and Guam. What matters is that these measures of the DPRK are being misinterpreted as "threat" and "provocations". As a matter of fact, the DPRK has been exposed to the harsh economic blockade, sanctions and military pressure by the U.S. and the West for more than six decades. The DPRK regards the nuclear force as reliable war deterrent and guarantee for the national security and sovereignty. All countermeasures of the DPRK are, therefore, just steps for self-defence to protect its dignity and system, not "provocations." |
