Rodong Sinmun Calls upon Chongryon to Uphold Kim Jong Il's Feats
Pyongyang, May 24 (KCNA) -- Today marks the 18th anniversary of historic letter "On Developing the Movement of Koreans in Japan onto a New High Stage" sent by leader Kim Jong Il to the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) and Koreans in Japan on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Chongryon.

The letter, published on May 24, Juche 84 (1995), comprehensively deals with the undying feats President Kim Il Sung performed in the history of the movement of Koreans in Japan and specifies the basic orientation of the work of Chongryon and its main tasks and ways.

Rodong Sinmun Friday in a bylined article says the letter is an important work which clearly indicates the path of the movement of Koreans in Japan which entered a new phase of its development.

Kim Jong Il in his letter advanced the issue of defending the democratic national rights and interests of compatriots, developing national education and preserving the national character, the issue of defending the socialist homeland and making tangible contributions to its prosperity, the issue of waging a more dynamic movement for national reunification and activating the external information service and activities in the idea of independence, peace and friendship as the main tasks to be always held fast to in the patriotic activities of Chongryon. The letter specified the issue of consolidating Chongryon organizationally and ideologically and the issue of improving work method and work style of Chongryon officials and ways to do so.

The officials of Chongryon have registered many achievements in their dynamic efforts to step up the movement of Koreans in Japan, full of conviction and true to the line and policies set forth by Kim Jong Il in his letter, the article says.

The article calls upon all the officials of Chongryon and Koreans in Japan to uphold Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il's Juche-based idea of the movement of overseas compatriots and their feats as immovable guidelines and eternal cornerstone of the movement of Koreans in Japan.
