DPRK Strives for Environmental Protection
Pyongyang, May 24 (KCNA) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea has attached great importance to the protection of natural environment.

The Cabinet, the State Planning Commission and provincial, city and county people's committees and other related institutions strive to provide equipment, materials and funds needed for environmental protection.

Research institutes under the Ministry of Land and Environment Protection have solved scientific and technological problems arising in this field.

Sewage treatment plants in industrial and residential quarters have been built on a modern basis.

Mines throughout the country have pushed ahead with reconstruction of settling reservoirs to thoroughly prevent the pollution of rivers, lakes and seas.

Waste water disposal facilities are being re-furnished at ports, estuaries and vessels.

A tree-planting campaign has been conducted on a nationwide scale along with activities to protect and propagate animals and plants.

Meanwhile, 2.3 million hectares of land, including streets, residential quarters, parks and pleasure grounds, were covered with new species of turf throughout the country up till now.
