Paekmasan Walls, Heritage of Korean Nation
Pyongyang, May 27 (KCNA) -- In Phihyon County, North Phyongan Province of Korea, there are Paekmasan Walls, built in the period of Koguryo Kingdom (277 BC-668 AD).

The walls were reinforced in the periods of Koryo Dynasty (918-1392) and the Feudal Joson Dynasty (1392-1910).

Mt. Paekma, in which the walls were built, is located in the area leading to Liaodong area of China across Amnok River in the north and to Pyongyang via Kusong, Pakchon and Anju in the south.

The walls are composed of inner and outer ones.

The 2 590 meter-long inner walls were reinforced in 1014-1017 with Uma Walls built in the period of Koguryo Kingdom as bedding, while the 2 430 meter-long outer walls were built in 1753.

The five to seven meter-high outer walls had arch-shaped gates in the east, west, south and north, with two-storied building in the south gate, which was destroyed by the Japanese aggressors.

Inside the walls there are 13 sites of ponds and 32 sites of wells, as well as the sites of armory, food storehouse and barracks.

The walls are one of symbols indicative of the Korean people's struggle against aggression.
