Rodong Sinmun Accuses U.S. of Rejecting Replacement of Fragile AA by Peace Treaty

Pyongyang, May 29 (KCNA) -- The United States has persistently opposed the replacement of the fragile Armistice Agreement (AA) by a lasting peace treaty in a sinister aim to recover from its shameful defeat in the Korean War and stifle the DPRK by force of arms at any cost. Rodong Sinmun Wednesday says this in a bylined article. It goes on: The spokesman for the Supreme Command of the Korean People's Army in a statement declared that the DPRK would totally nullify the AA. This was the DPRK's countermeasure against the U.S. systematic violation and nullification of the AA. The U.S. and the south Korean puppet forces finally staged the Key Resolve and Foal Eagle joint military drills in a bid to ignite a nuclear war with huge armed forces for aggression involved. This was the most flagrant violation and annulment of the AA. The U.S. persistent stance is to watch for an opportunity, while keeping the ceasefire state for an indefinite period as it does not want the conclusion of any peace-keeping mechanism with the DPRK. In other words, the U.S. will as ever seek to regard the DPRK as a belligerent party and an enemy to be "wiped out". It is as clear as a pikestaff that the AA can not prevent a new war on the Korean Peninsula. As long as the ceasefire state goes on, it is impossible to build a thriving nation and achieve a happy life and the prosperity of the nation. This is the conclusion drawn by the DPRK while being exposed to the threat of a war for several decades. If such unstable situation where a war may break out any moment and an unpredictable incident lead to the war, this will do the U.S. nothing good either. The ceasefire system, a leftover of the Korean War, should be replaced by a durable peace mechanism as early as possible. If any catastrophic incident takes place on the Korean Peninsula, the U.S. will be held wholly responsible for it as the U.S. has persistently scrapped the AA and opposed the conclusion of a peace treaty. |
