Pyongyang, May 30 (KCNA) -- The British Association for the Study of Songun Policy, the British Group for the Study of the Juche Idea and the British Branch of the Korean Friendship Association in a joint statement issued on May 22 said the blood shed by the participants in the Kwangju Popular Uprising of south Korea would never be in vain. It is 33 years since the citizens of Kwangju in south Korea rose in an uprising against the fascist junta's corrupt and unpopular policy and the U.S. imperialists' colonial domination, the statement noted, and continued: The uprising was a courageous and heroic struggle waged by people and revolutionaries in south Korea against imperialism and fascism and recorded a new chapter in the history of the south Korean people's struggle for independence, democracy and reunification. Admirable, indeed, were heroism, prowess and self-sacrificing spirit displayed by the resistance fighters. The uprising greatly encouraged the world progressive people in their struggle against dictatorship. The uprisers courageously fought against the tyranny of the south Korean puppet troops patronized by the U.S. imperialist aggressor forces. The uprising taught the truth that independence and social changes can never be achieved by a peaceful means but counter-revolutionary violence should be countered by revolutionary violence without fail. We pay tribute to the heroic spirit of the participants in the uprising on its 33rd anniversary. We extend firm support to the south Korean people in their struggle to bring down the puppet regime, drive out the Yankee imperialists out of south Korea and achieve independence, democracy and reunification. |
