Nonsmoking Campaign Brisk in DPRK
Pyongyang, May 31 (KCNA) -- Nonsmoking campaign is gaining momentum in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

Some days ago, a workshop on tobacco control took place in the capital city of Pyongyang, with attendance of officials of the Ministry of Public Health, the Education Commission, the Ministry of Commerce and other related units and representatives of international agencies here.

High on the agenda at the workshop were a series of shortcomings found in combating smoking as well as the ways for overcoming them. The participants also watched a video on nonsmoking activities now under way worldwide.

In line with the world's tendency to make tobacco-free century, the DPRK enforced the tobacco control law and has paid big efforts to that effect.

Nonsmoking research centers, set up in Pyongyang and two provinces, are working to raise awareness of harmfulness of tobacco among local people. Put on sale at the centers are anti-smoking pill, anti-smoking gum, denicotinizing pipe, filter, etc.

On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day, various events took place here on Thursday under the theme "Comprehensive ban on all tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship."
