Pyongyang, June 1 (KCNA) -- The Asia-Pacific regional preparatory committee was inaugurated on May 13 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Korean people's victory in the great Fatherland Liberation War. Senior personages in countries of the Asia-Pacific region including India, Pakistan, Nepal, Mongolia, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Australia and New Zealand were elected co-chairpersons, vice-chairpersons, members and secretary generals of the preparatory committee. An appeal adopted at the inaugural ceremony called for conducting the international solidarity movement for supporting the Korean people in their push for the conclusion of a peace treaty between the DPRK and the U.S. and the withdrawal of the U.S. forces from south Korea on the occasion. The June 15 North-South Joint Declaration and the October 4 declaration serve as the most reasonable programmes for the independent and peaceful reunification of Korea and a landmark for peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula, it said, calling for positively supporting the Korean people in their cause for implementing the declarations. It underlined the need to join the Korean people in celebrating the 60th anniversary of their victory in the war by organizing in Pyongyang a grand march for peace demanding the conclusion of a peace treaty between the DPRK and the U.S. and the withdrawal of the U.S. forces from south Korea, and other colorful solidarity events. |
