DPRK Likely to Witness Low Precipitation in Summer
Pyongyang, June 4 (KCNA) -- Spring season came to the Korean Peninsula this year later than the average year, affected by cold air from the north.

The late arrival is likely to affect the summer weather in the country.

In this regard, KCNA met Kim Mun Uk, a section chief of the National Meteorological Centre.

He said:

In summer the west coastal areas of the country will be hit by drought and the east coastal areas by coolness with high pressure of the Sea of Okhotsk.

The high pressure from the northwest Pacific is forecast to weaken, delaying the rainy season.

Like in 1901, 1974 and 1976, the rainy season is uncertain, the rainspell shorter and precipitation lower than the average.

Heavy rainfall is expected to sweep through some central areas south of the Chongchon River.

One or two rounds of typhoon will hit the country in mid-August.
