S. Korean Workers Protest "Government's" Unpopular Rule

Pyongyang, June 4 (KCNA) -- More than 20 000 members of the south Korean Confederation of Trade Unions staged an action in Youido, Seoul on June 1 denouncing the unpopular rule of the puppet authorities.

They called for winning basic labor right and checking privatization. Among the protesters were members of the Public Transport Trade Union, Government Employees Union, Teachers Union, Professors Trade Union, University Trade Union and Press Trade Union.

At the rally speakers said workers in the public field are denied even the right to form organizations, an elementary right.

The "government" has paid no heed to the recommendations of the International Labor Organization on revising the law on trade unions and reinstating those dismissed, they charged.

They condemned the present chief executive, saying that after taking office she did not follow through on her election commitment that she would not push forward privatization in the railways, gas and electricity fields without agreement and consent of the people.

Urging the "government" to guarantee the workers basic rights, they vowed to turn out in actions to block the policy of granting privileges to big businessmen.
