Pyongyang, June 6 (KCNA) -- The June 1st issue of the Uruguayan paper La Juventud carried an article titled "The DPRK, an echo of June 15" with a photo of leader Kim Jong Il meeting Kim Dae Jung, former president of south Korea, on the occasion of the 13th anniversary of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration. The north-south summit was held in Pyongyang 13 years ago, the first of its kind in the history of Korea's division, and the historic June 15 joint declaration was adopted there, the paper said, and went on: No sooner had the declaration been made public than it aroused strong support and positive response of not only all Koreans but the world community. Dialogues and negotiations were held between the north and the south in various fields including politics, economy, culture and military resulting in good fruits geared to reconciliation, unity, cooperation and exchange. The October 4 declaration, a practical programme for implementing the June 15 joint declaration, was adopted in 2007, which opened up a brighter prospect for Korean nation's movement for reunification. However, the June 15 era of reunification faced serious challenge after the Lee Myung Bak's regime emerged in south Korea. Acute inter-Korean relations have plunged into a bigger deadlock due to the present chief executive of south Korea. All facts clearly prove that the north and the south of Korea can advance toward reunification if they support and implement the June 15 joint declaration but will face only confrontation and war if any side negates it. |
