Russian Paper Accuses U.S. of Shunning Conclusion of Peace Treaty with DPRK

Pyongyang, Jun 7 (KCNA) -- The Russian paper Tribuna on May 29 carried a commentary titled "DPRK proposes signing peace treaty". The commentary said: The DPRK's proposal for concluding a peace treaty is nothing new. It has so far proposed the signing of a peace treaty many times since the ceasefire but the U.S. has persistently rejected it. This proposal proves who is the arch criminal escalating the tension on the Korean Peninsula and who wants peace there. The DPRK is foiling U.S. provocations, not yielding to its political and military pressure. The proposal for signing a treaty for guaranteeing security of all parties on the Korean Peninsula is nothing bad. The treaty can involve a stop to threat by strength and its use, withdrawal of foreign forces from south Korea, etc. This is what the U.S. is afraid of. There are many precedents that the U.S. ignited wars but there is no precedent that it signed a peace treaty and pulled its forces back of its own accord. The DPRK declared the Armistice Agreement (AA) null and void at a time when the U.S. threat reached an extreme phase recently. The AA was meaningless as there took place military exercises which might lead to aggression any moment. The strategic conclusion drawn by the DPRK in the tension escalating on the peninsula is that it can never dismantle its nuclear weapons, its means for defense. The situation on the peninsula is requiring the conclusion of a peace treaty but the U.S. is shunning it. |
