The declaration referred to the struggle of the participants in the Kwangju popular resistance who bravely fought against the military fascist regime for the democratization of society and reunification of Korea 33 years ago.

Since then the trend of independence, democracy and peaceful reunification has become stronger in south Korea, the declaration said, and went on:

Military tensions have run high recently in the peninsula and its vicinity. The greatest victim is the Korean nation.

Calling for removing the danger of a war, the declaration voiced positive support for all the efforts for the conclusion of a peace treaty this year marking the six decades since the signing of the Armistice Agreement on the peninsula.

The declaration underscored the need to positively join in the push to defend the justice and ensure the peace on the peninsula.
