DPRK's Pianist Proves Successful in Int'l Juvenile Piano Concours
Pyongyang, June 11 (KCNA) -- DPRK student Yu Pyol Mi took a special place at the 10th Safonov International Juvenile Piano Concours held in Patsigorsk City, Stavropol Territory, Russia between June 1 and 5.

The concours brought together 68 excellent young pianists from at least 30 cities of different countries and regions.

It was divided into three groups according to ages. Competitors had to pass the first and second phases.

Yu, who belonged to the second group, successfully played a series of "Arirang", Korean song arranged by her in the first phase, advancing into the second phase, the final contest.

She successfully presented world famous music requiring high artistry and rendition in the second phase, winning acclaim of experts and the audience.

At the end of her playing, members of the jury, music lovers and the audience asked her to repeat playing three times with warm applause. This was something unprecedented.

At an awarding ceremony held on June 5, she was awarded the special prize and special cup.

When asked by reporters to give her impressions of the honor of receiving the special prize, she said: "I am very happy to have been able to please the dear respected Marshal Kim Jong Un who loves the children most and brings their talents into full bloom. I'll work harder to become a world famous pianist in the future".
