New Plant Growth Regulator Developed in DPRK

Pyongyang, June 11 (KCNA) -- Chemical engineers of Kim Il Sung University in the DPRK developed a new kind of plant growth regulator, Jungsan-1. This organophosphorous regulator helps shorten the growing period of crops and raise their maturing rate, with a negligible amount of it per hectare. It enhances the crops' resistance to low temperature. It was confirmed that the regulator increases per hectare yield of paddy rice 7 to 12 percent, maize 9 to 15, potato 20, bean 15, vegetable 20 and cotton 15. The regulator proves more effective when it is applied, mixed with agrochemicals, manure or nutrient solutions. Spraying it some 30 days before harvest can raise the ripening rate over five percent. And chelating it will further enhance its physiological activity. As undiluted solution, 10 grams are enough for millet and barley per hectare, 2 grams for rice or maize and 10 to 20 grams for bean. The regulator has already been introduced to co-op farms in western areas of the country. |
