Pyongyang, June 17 (KCNA) -- The State Stamp Bureau of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea has recently issued a sheetlet picturing Mt. Paektu. The sheetlet, with Korean letters "Paektusan", consists of stamps portraying Lake Chon, glow over Hyangdo Peak, Lake Chon in spring season and a view of Mt. Paektu seen from Saja Peak. There are also stamps picturing rare plants in the mountain. Mt. Paektu, located in Samjiyon County, Ryanggang Province of Korea, is 2 750 meters above sea level, the highest in the country. The Korean people have regarded it as the ancestral mountain or a sacred mountain of revolution because it is associated with revolutionary activities of President Kim Il Sung and General Secretary Kim Jong Il. The mountain is well known to the world as a scenic spot for its mysterious and rapidly changing scenery. The Bureau also brought out three kinds of individual stamps picturing honeybees. |
