DPRK Artistes, Student Prove Successful at International Concours

Pyongyang, June 27 (KCNA) -- Artistes Paek Song Hyok and Song Kyong Op of the Korean People's Internal Security Forces Song and Dance Ensemble won a top place in instrumental music ensemble and first places in bayan and accordion solo at the International Art Concours-Festival "Vacation in Moscow" held in Moscow from June 21 to 23. Pak Hyon Chol, teacher of Pyongyang Music School, placed second in bayan and accordion solo. Congratulating the DPRK musicians on their successes, the members of the jury and music experts expressed admiration at them, saying: All the members of the jury were stunned. They never thought Koreans would play bayan so excellently. Bayan duet, in particular, was flawless. The concours brought together more than 250 musicians from the DPRK, Russia, Belarus, Uzbekistan and other countries. Choe Kum Song, DPRK student of Moscow Tchaikovsky State Conservatory, won the 4th international Schubert musicians and composers concours held from June 16 to 23. He came second in wind instrument, allowing no one to hold the first place. The members of the jury and music experts said that Choe's playing was excellent and it is the greatest discovery in this concours, expressing belief that he would grow to be a wonderful musical talent of the DPRK in the future. Over 180 musicians from different countries including the DPRK, Russia, China, Japan and Ukraine competed in piano, vocal music, wind instrument and string instrument. |
