Ex-Commanders of U.S. Forces in S. Korea Flayed for Their Reckless Remarks

Pyongyang, July 2 (KCNA) -- Former commanders of the U.S. forces in south Korea were recently reported to have made such reckless remarks that the 16-member "UN Command" is playing the role of a defensive mechanism; it has played a big role in maintaining stability and peace on the Korean Peninsula along with the U.S.-south Korea "Combined Forces Command" and the U.S. forces present in south Korea; and the UN does not want the dismantlement of the "UN Command". Rodong Sinmun Tuesday in a bylined commentary observes in this regard: The real criminal who put at peril the peace and the security on the Korean Peninsula is none other than the U.S. What former commanders said is, therefore, just a sleight of hand to divert elsewhere the international community's criticism of the U.S. and shirk off such criminal responsibility. Their remarks are also just a far-fetched assertion because the U.S. can not prove the legality of the "UN Command" by law. Now the Korean Peninsula is in such a serious situation of whether war or peace as U.S. forces are present in south Korea under the disguise of the "UN Command". People are becoming increasingly stronger in their voices calling for the dismantlement of the Command and the pullout of the U.S. forces. They are saying that unless the hotbed of war is eradicated from the international arena, the peace and the security on the peninsula can never be ensured. The present U.S. authorities, however, are screwing up the tensions on the Korean Peninsula by resorting to aggression and provocation moves to stifle the DPRK by making the use of the command, far from dismantling it. Whether the U.S. dismantles the command and pulls its forces out of south Korea or not serves as a touchstone showing whether it truly wants peace and stability on the peninsula or not. The U.S. should not resort to such a trick but immediately dismantle the command and withdraw its forces from south Korea. |
