Pyongyang, July 2 (KCNA) -- The Okchon Revolutionary Site, located in Pukchang County, South Phyongan Province, is the place where the Korean People's Army had its Supreme Command for the first time in the days of the temporary strategic retreat on the part of the KPA during the Fatherland Liberation War (June 25, 1950-July 27, 1953). President Kim Il Sung stayed there from October 16 to 20, Juche 39 (1950), working out a plan to open up a new phase for the war. At a train evacuated in a tunnel, he took concrete measures to materialize the second-stage strategic line of the war and met senior officials of the army, the party and the state. There, he handled many issues like formation of the second front in the enemy-controlled area, uninterrupted issue of publications and the livelihood of servicepersons and civilians. The day after he left there, the U.S. warplanes raided the tunnel, leaving 46 traces of machine-gun shots at its mouth, which gives a glimpse of his clairvoyant insight. Preserved there are an angling site, shallow well and open-air dining site. |
