Disbandment of "UN Command" Demanded in Indonesia

Pyongyang, July 3 (KCNA) -- The Pioneer Party of Indonesia, the Soekarno Foundation for Education of Indonesia, Bungkarno University and the Indonesia-Korea Association for Friendship and Cultural Exchange issued an appeal on June 15 to mark the 60th anniversary of the Korean people's victory in the great Fatherland Liberation War. The appeal said: This is a significant year marking the 60th anniversary of the heroic Korean people's victory in the great Fatherland Liberation War. The Korean Armistice Agreement (AA) was concluded on July 27, 1953. Almost 60 years have passed since the ceasefire but the war has not yet been ended from a technical point of view. Fragile state of armistice is still going on the Korean peninsula due to the lack of an institutional mechanism for guaranteeing peace and there is doubt about peace or war. The U.S. is making a desperate bid to keep as ever the "UN Command," a ghost-like entity dating back to the Cold War, persistently shunning the DPRK's consistent stand and efforts to replace the AA with a peace treaty. This specter is reviving as a tool for a war of aggression bringing the dark clouds of war to the Asia-Pacific region, the world's biggest hotspot, according to the U.S. new defense strategy. If the danger of war on the Korean peninsula is to be completely defused and durable peace to be ensured, it is necessary first of all for countries concerned to terminate their hostile relations. What is the most important to do so is for the U.S. to roll back its hostile policy toward the DPRK and stop the nuclear war drills and dismantle the "UN Command", the legacy of the Cold War, and drive its aggressor troops out of south Korea at once. We express full support for the DPRK's crucial measures to defend the sovereignty and dignity of the nation and the supreme interests of the country and appeal to the world peace-loving people to actively join the Korean people in their just struggle. |
