Swedish Figure Demands Replacement of AA by Peace Treaty
Pyongyang, July 13 (KCNA) -- Christer Lundgren, chairman of the Sweden-Korea Friendship Association, made public a statement on July 7 to mark the 60th anniversary of the Korean people's victory in the great Fatherland Liberation War.

The statement cited materials proving that the U.S. suffered huge damage from the Korean War which it ignited with the ambition for world domination and signed the Armistice Agreement (AA) with the DPRK. The U.S., however, has systematically destroyed it for the past six decades, the statement added.

It is self-evident that a treaty will turn into a wastepaper if it is ignored by any one party to the treaty, the statement said, and went on:

AA has long lost its mission and role as mechanism for averting the danger of war and escalation of the tension on the Korean Peninsula as nobody pins hope on it.

Peace and stability in the peninsula and its vicinity cannot be ensured nor independent and peaceful development of the Korean nation be expected as long as AA is left intact.

The DPRK set forth a proposal for replacing the AA by a peace treaty and establishing a new and durable peace mechanism long ago and has made consistent and persistent efforts for its implementation.

To replace the AA by a peace treaty is prerequisite for checking arms-buildup and arms race on the Korean Peninsula, settling the nuclear issue and solving the inter-Korean relations and the DPRK-U.S. relations.
