S. Korean Social Bodies Demand Thorough Investigation into Project for Four Big Rivers

Pyongyang, July 17 (KCNA) -- The All-people Measure Committee for Restoring Four Big Rivers, the Committee for the Investigation into the Project for Improving Four Big Rivers and other civic and social bodies of south Korea held a press conference in Seoul on Tuesday demanding a thoroughgoing investigation into the whole process of the project.

The bodies at the press conference recalled that the results of the investigation conducted by the Board of Audit and Inspection on July 10 revealed that the project was a charade aimed to deceive the people as it was pushed forward for the purpose of building a great canal.

They said the results, however, failed to fully disclose the ecological destruction caused by the project and the damage done to farmers in its process and that the persons and institutions that decided on the wrong policy and implemented it were not called into question at all.

They called for including members of civic and social bodies in the investigation team.
