He came first in the men's 77kg snatch of the 2013 Asian Weightlifting Championship.

Kim began learning weightlifting at the age of 12 and has distinguished himself since he was 14 years old.

He has been active at the April 25 Sports Team since Juche 97 (2008).

In the 2012 Asian Junior and Juvenile Weightlifting Championship, the first international game for him, he won three gold medals in the 77kg category of the junior event.

He set two new national records in the 1st-class weightlifting tournament held as part of the Mangyongdae Prize Sports Games this year.

He is now intensifying training in an aim to break the world's record.
