KCNA Commentary Censures U.S. Moves to Build Missile Shield in Asia-Pacific
Pyongyang, July 20 (KCNA) -- The U.S. is busy stepping up its moves to build a missile shield in the Asia-Pacific region under the pretext of the missile threat from the DPRK.

The U.S. Department of Defense announced that it would push ahead with its plan to additionally deploy 14 interceptor missiles in its west coastal areas including Alaska and California, despite the recent failure in the test-fire of long-range interceptor missiles to cope with the missile attack of the DPRK.

It is deceiving the international community, claiming that the interceptor missiles to be deployed in Alaska is to "cope with the missile development of north Korea", not to target its neighboring powers.

This is a brigandish logic that cannot convince anyone and a broad hoax to evade the world criticism.

The U.S. moves to establish a missile defense system (MD) in the Asia-Pacific region is a clear indication of its sinister intention to contain the powers and maintain and further strengthen its military hegemony in the region.

Viktor Yesin, former chief of the General Staff of the Strategic Rocket Force of Russia, said that "the U.S. is building a theatre missile defense system to contain the nuclear potential of Russia and China and its reaction to the DPRK is totally asymmetric".

The U.S. is pushing ahead with its MD in a bid to stifle the DPRK any time and to contain the regional powers.

This MD operational range covers the powers and the strategic vantage points in the Asia-Pacific region.

The U.S. moves to build a missile shield is, in essence, the establishment of a powerful missile attack system to target the Eurasian continent.

Precisely for this reason the U.S. is now boosting cooperation with Japan and south Korea in building a combined missile shield.

Japan, which got a permission for joint development, production and deployment of MD from the U.S., deployed lots of new-type missiles in bases of its "Self-defense Force" and expanding the operational range of its Aegis interceptor missile warships beyond the limits of its maritime sovereignty, stepping up the introduction of the MD.

Under the pretext of the combined MD the U.S. allowed the south Korean puppet forces to increase their missile range so that they can target any areas in the DPRK.

The U.S. missile shield is being built in the direction of pressurizing the potential rivals in the Asia-Pacific region from the east and west.

These U.S. moves are triggering off military concern among the regional powers and sparking confrontation and arms race in the region.

Its scenario to establish a hegemonic order in the Asia-Pacific region on the basis of upper hand of strength is bound to go bust as it is an anachronistic one.
