The troupe is an art organization of national value and exemplary one formed by leader Kim Jong Il on July 22, Juche 72 (1983).

It has created and successfully performed many hymns praising the party and the leader as well as famous songs and dance pieces. It has made great contributions to giving wide publicity to the greatness of the three commanders of Mt. Paektu and the advantages of Korean-style socialism and displaying over the world the might of the daily developing Juche art.

The WPK Central Committee praised the creators and artistes of the troupe for faithfully upholding the music policy of the party by devoting their wisdom and enthusiasm with pure loyalty and high sense of moral obligation for the party and the leader.
