GIs' Killing of Civilians during Korean War under Fire in S. Korea
Pyongyang, July 22 (KCNA) -- A meeting took place on the spot on July 18 to remember the civilians mercilessly killed by the U.S. imperialist aggressors in Rogun-ri, Yongdong County, North Chungchong Province of south Korea during the past Korean War.

The representative of the Unified Progressive Party, an opposition party of south Korea, said at the meeting that the number of civilians killed in south Korea including Rogun-ri before and after the past June 25 war exceeded a million.

He went on:

The U.S. did not officially apologize to the bereaved families yet, claiming that GIs' killing of civilians at that time was accidental and the "government" also has taken no measure for reparation.

The number of those recognized as victims by the south Korean Committee for Settling the Past History for Truth and Reconciliation was just over 15 000 persons.

He accused the "government" of refusing to own responsibility for all the remaining victims as the Supreme Court announced that it is hard to apply for reparation unless one goes through the required procedures now that the activities of this organization are over.

He held that a long time has passed since then, but the "government" should unearth remains, probe truth about cases, make proper reparation and take a measure against the recurrence of such cases.
