Pyongyang, July 24 (KCNA) -- The Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea issued a decree on institution of the Title of Labor Hero on July 17, Juche 40 (1951), when the country was in the thick of the Korean War (June 25, 1950-July 27, 1953). The title went first to Choe Ki Ryong in December that year. At that time, Choe made a big contribution to ensuring wartime transport as a locomotive engineer in the Wonsan Locomotive Section. One day in July 1950 when he was transporting war supplies by train, he found that another train, loaded with munitions, was trapped in a station yard, set ablaze by air raids. He unhesitatingly ran to the train, put out fire risking his life and shunted the train. One day in July 1951, he rescued trains in a station yard from bombing, saving large quantity of munitions. |
