U.S. Pressure upon S. Korea for Its Increased Payment of Upkeep of U.S. Forces under Fire

Pyongyang, July 25 (KCNA) -- Kyunghyang Daily News of south Korea on July 22 carried an article denouncing the U.S. for working hard to force the south Korean people to pay a stupendous amount of money for the upkeep of U.S. imperialist aggressor forces.

It was confirmed recently that 533.8 billion won is left over out of the upkeep south Korea provided to the U.S. forces in the five years.

This fact was confirmed after a lawmaker from the Unified Progressive Party examined the information about the payment of the shared upkeep of the U.S. forces from 2009 to 2013 available from the Defense Ministry.

The amount of money unused by the U.S. forces out of the upkeep paid by south Korea increased every year. This accounted for 23.6 percent last year alone.

Nevertheless, the U.S. is pressurizing south Korea to further increase its share of upkeep at the on-going negotiations for signing a new special agreement on sharing the upkeep of the U.S. forces in south Korea under the pretext of the worsening situation.
