Seen before the tower was a wreath sent by Kim Jong Un, first secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), first chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK and supreme commander of the Korean People's Army.

Present at the wreath-laying ceremony were Yang Hyong Sop, member of the Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee who is vice-president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly (SPA), Kim Yang Gon, secretary of the WPK Central Committee, Ji Jae Ryong, DPRK ambassador to China, officials concerned, Pyongyang citizens and staff members of the Chinese embassy here.

Wreaths were placed before the tower in the name of the delegation and in the joint name of the WPK Central Committee, the SPA Presidium and the DPRK Cabinet.

Also laid there were the wreaths in the name of the Ministry of the People's Armed Forces, Ministry of People's Security, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Culture, Education Commission and Ministry of Railways, in the joint name of the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries and the Central Committee of the DPRK-China Friendship Association and in the joint name of the Pyongyang City Committee of the WPK and the Pyongyang City People's Committee.

Its participants observed moment's silence in memory of the fallen fighters of the Chinese People's Volunteers (CPV) who bravely fought shoulder to shoulder with the Korean service personnel on the Korean front under the banner of resisting America and adding Korea, safeguarding the home and defending the motherland. They went round the tower.

On the same day, the delegation of war veterans of the CPV, the delegation of war veterans and families of martyrs of the CPV and the literary and art delegation of the Chinese People's Liberation Army also laid wreaths before the tower.
