U.S. Urged to Come Out for Peace on Korean Peninsula
Pyongyang, July 29 (KCNA) -- The People's Action for Peace against War and the progressive policy post-graduate course of the opposition Unified Progressive Party in south Korea held an international peace seminar for conclusion of a peace treaty on the Korean Peninsula in Seoul on July 26.

Present there were representatives of pro-reunification organizations in south Korea and experts on the Korean Issue from different countries.

A professor of Ottawa University in Canada said in a lecture given at the seminar that Korea is still technically at war because the U.S. has pursued war moves for more than half a century, threatening the DPRK with nuclear weapons.

He denounced the U.S. for not only keeping south Korea under its military occupation but mulling its forces' permanent presence.

In order to ensure peace on the peninsula the U.S. forces should be pulled out of south Korea to the last man and the south Korea-U.S. "Combined Forces Command" should be disbanded and an end should be put to their alliance.

After speeches were over, an international peace declaration for putting an end to the war on the Korean Peninsula and urging the conclusion of a peace treaty was read out at the seminar.

The declaration said that it is the way of achieving peace on the peninsula to start negotiations for the conclusion of a peace treaty and normalize the DPRK-U.S. relations.

It demanded the U.S. stop insisting on its bankrupt sanctions against the DPRK and policy of pressure, promptly come out for negotiations for the conclusion of a peace treaty and halt joint war maneuvers with south Korea.
