Chinese Paper Instroduces Laudable Deed for Sino-Korea Friendship
Pyongyang, August 6 (KCNA) -- The Chinese newspaper Jilin Xinwen on Aug. 1 carried an article under the title "Song of Sino-Korea friendship sung on the River Amnok" having its subtitle "Linjiang City rescues Korean inhabitants marooned on an islet due to flood on River Amnok."

Soldiers and citizens of Linjiang City in Jilin Province rescued three Koreans marooned on an islet by torrential rain in recent days.

On July 25, the Amnok River rose all of a sudden because of the downpour which persisted for several consecutive days.

This left the three Koreans marooned on an islet situated in the middle of the river. Violent flooding left the islet inundated, greatly threatening their lives.

Right after the border battalion in the city was informed of the situation, it reported the situation to the party committee, government and police of the city and lost no time to dispatch soldiers to the scene to learn about the disaster.

The secretary of the city party committee gave an instruction to make every possible effort to rescue them and personally went up to the hill of a village in the city facing the islet with the director of the police department of the city and discussed the operation for rescuing them.

The paper recalled that the Chinese rescue group members made persevering efforts for hours to find out the peasants of the Sangjang Co-op Farm in Junggang County and finally succeeded in safely rescuing them, risking their own lives.

It also noted that officials and other people of the city made every sincere effort to help the Koreans return home.

The story was illustrated with photos of the peasants.
