The song, vibrant with the feelings of unity between the army and the people, was created in Juche 41 (1952) when the Korean War (June 1950 -July 1953) was going on.

It was written by Choe Ro Sa, who was a military nurse at that time.

Choe was a student of Kim Il Sung University before joining the army.

One spring day in 1951, she went to a spring site of a rural village to prepare breakfast, while on a duty of evacuating wounded soldiers to the rear.

At the site, she saw some soldiers talking with girls doing their wash while singing songs.

She instantly took out a pen and wrote words for what she saw.

A year later, the song was composed by Yun Sung Jin, who was active at an art troupe.

The song became a hit, as it lively represented the kinship between servicepersons and civilians.

Soon it swept through the country, enjoying great popularity among the local people.
