Rakdong River Turns into River of Death
Pyongyang, August 10 (KCNA) -- The Rakdong River has turned into the river of death due to the project of the four large rivers undertaken by the Lee Myung Bak group of traitors.

The people's team for investigation into the project of the four large rivers together with lawmakers from opposition parties and members of environmental organizations made field survey of the Rakdong River on August 7 and deplored that the river has turned into one where living organism cannot live and which inflict only sufferings upon people.

Now the river has been seriously contaminated due to the massive existence of weed.

It has grown so thick that the river cannot admit sunrays and reduces oxygen in the water, threatening the existence of fish and selfish.

Ecological environment on the riverside is serious.

Eight dams built as part of the project for the four large rivers are overgrown with weeds and trees there are dying.

What matters is that the dams are in such bad shape that they may collapse any moment.

The bottoms of the dams are sinking without let-up in various points as they were designed on the basis of a wrong calculation of flux of river water and its speed and pressure. Consequently, water is leaking from one place of two water gates of one dam. A project for repairing dams is now under way, requiring spending of a stupendous amount of money collected from the people as taxes.

Looking at the Rakdong River, a dead river, people from all walks of life demand: "Let river water flow again as its trend was stemmed." "The present regime which promised the ecological restoration of the Rakdong River should own responsibility and take measures as early as possible. Otherwise, it will not be able to evade the same responsibility as the Lee Myung Bak regime's".
